how to start doing research in astronomy
Very often, students want to know what they need to start doing research in astronomy.
My answer is three things: English skills good enough to read books and papers, basic programming skills (in Python these days), and strong motivation to pursue research in astronomy.
I am convinced that once they have those (especially the strong motivation), they can acquire any kind of knowledge to tackle their first research project.
I believe that there is no need to know a lot (i.e., about telescopes, statistics, advanced physics) to get started with research in astronomy.
The next three steps might be trickier: starting to work on a project, finding someone to comment on your project, and actually finishing the project to move on to the next one.
