research for undergrads

I've been a university professor for 12 years. During this time, I've found good ways to help students do amazing things and go beyond what they think is possible.
(I basically do what my professors did with us undergrads at Instituto Balseiro)

Here's how I help them:
1. Start Research Early: I encourage students to begin research as early as possible.
2. Do One-Year Projects: I give them projects they can finish in one year.
3. Present Abroad: I help them show their work at meetings in other countries.
4. Write Papers: I teach them how to write their first research paper.
5. Try International Programs: I gently push them to try internships or schools in other countries.

What happens? Students who follow this plan usually finish their undergraduate degree with:

  • A published research paper

  • Experience speaking at a meeting in another country

  • Time spent learning or doing research abroad

This helps students decide what they want to do after college, whether it's more school or a job.
Of course, all this can be done given the privilege I have to work at Facultad de Ciencias Uniandes, that manages to attract top students all over the country.
