Is the universe itself a black hole?
There are long hard walks, where we feel we are moving forward very slowly, with great effort, step by step. In that walk, sometimes we ponder whether we should change directions. Our imagination is stimulated by thinking how walking a different path could feel like.
That's how I classify the work by fellow cosmologist Enrique Gaztanaga. He is exploring the idea that the universe itself might be a black hole.
Enrique has been discussing for the last couple of years the theoretical foundations and implications of this concept, challenging conventional cosmological models. The proposal still feels far from being a direction where most physical cosmology will go, but I find it stimulating to ponder about.
